Curved-Lip Micropera is a small sized, tree-dwelling
orchid with a branched stem carrying distichous, linear-oblong, keeled
beneath, blunt to somewhat pointed, minutely bifid apically, stalkless,
jointed leaves. It is named for Horace Mann Jr., 19th century American
naturalist. The plant blooms in the late spring and early summer on
a straight, hairless, 2-8.5 cm long, laxly 8-18 flowered inflorescence
with ovate, pointed to apiculate floral bracts. Flowers are pale-pink,
0.6-0.7 cm. across. Sepals and petals are nearly equal,
spoon-shaped-oblong, reflexed. Lip is more or less slipper shaped,
blunt, decurved; side lobes bluntly triangular, incurved; mid lobe with
a flat callus. Curved-Lip Micropera is found in East Himalaya at altitudes
of 330-1100 m.
